Renewable Energy Sources in Clarkstown

Every state in the nation is pushing to be greener and more environmentally friendly. They?re looking to reduce their carbon footprints, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and up their production of renewable energy. The state of New York is no exception and its Department of Environmental Conservation is working to bring in more Clarkstown renewable energy sources, as well as sources in other cities around the state.

?

Clarkstown renewable energy sources include solar energy, water and tidal power, biofuels, geothermal energy and the increasingly popular wind power. The Renewable Energy Task Force in New York made recommendations in 1998 that included sixteen groups of actions to improve Clarkstown renewable energy sources, as well as energy sources throughout the state.

According to the website for the task force, the actions will ?move New York toward greater renewable energy development and greater energy independence, which will attract clean-energy industries to New York State.?

?

The Renewable Energy Task Force Plan includes the following items to help bolster Clarkstown renewable energy sources, as well as sources throughout the state:

?

  • Reducing electricity use by 15 percent by 2015
  • Creating new standards for appliance efficiency
  • Creating more rigorous building codes
  • Investing in renewable energy projects throughout the state
  • Creating an expedited review process for wind power projects and other projects that have low carb dioxide levels

?

Like nearly every other state in the nation, New York adopted a Renewable Portfolio Standard back in 2004.

It helps promote creation and use of alternative energy sources and research to help in the creation and implementation of those sources. The goal of New York?s Renewable Energy Portfolio is to increase the amount of renewable electricity used throughout the state. The goal amount is 30 percent by 2015.

?

There are currently numerous incentives for New York?s businesses and residents to move to the use of renewable energy sources. Some of the incentives include:

?

  • The refundable clean heating tax fuel credit (for corporations and individuals)
  • Residential solar sales tax exemptions
  • Residential wood heating fuel exemption
  • Home performance with Energy Star financing

?

There is also a state rebate program that offers some of the following:

  • Residential energy efficient appliance rebate programs
  • Energy services programs for public entities
  • Green residential building programs
  • Solar thermal incentive programs
  • On-site small wind incentive programs
  • Industrial and process efficiency performance incentives

?

Many of the utility companies throughout New York all offer numerous incentives for green energy use. If you?re a customer of Central Hudson Gas & Electric, ConEd, Long Island Power Authority, National Fuel, National Grid, NYSEG, O&R Utilities or RG&E, you could qualify for the incentives. Call and ask your Clean Green Representative about them today!
