LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Lisa Cholodenko is coming on board to direct "November Criminals" for the Santa Monica-based production company Indian Paintbrush, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
Steve Knight is polishing a soon-to-be-delivered draft of the script for this Washington, D.C.-set story, which revolves around a student exploring the underbelly of Washington society in order to uncover the mystery surrounding the death of a fellow student.
Indian Paintbrush has been ramping up in recent months and has signed a number of new production deals. In May, the company announced a two-year, first-look deal with Jeremy Renner and his writing partner, Don Handfield, and their new banner, The Combine.
The company also has deals with "Moonrise Kingdom" director Wes Anderson and "Up in the Air" director Jason Reitman. Recent productions include "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" and "Not Fade Away."
Indian Paintbrush is a producer on "The Grand Budapest Hotel," which is being directed by Anderson and stars Johnny Depp.
Breaking out with her artsy lesbian film "High Art" in 1998, Cholodenko has since directed a number of well-received features, including "Laurel Canyon" and "The Kids are All Right." In May, it was announced that Cholodenko will direct an adaptation of Tom Perrotta's book "The Abstinence Teacher."
